Empower every student's voice! Have the onscreen keyboard made available in their language.

In yesterday's post I shared How to change the keyboard on your Chromebook. Today, I share the same thing; however, we take it one step further and add the on-screen keyboard so the student/user can see the keyboard in their own language.

Think about how powerful that is. Imagine you went to another country and did not speak the native language. You would want that computer to show English when you typed as well as understand where the keys are.

Here are the steps (the beginning is from yesterday's post)

  • Select the time in the bottom right of your Chromebook
  • Choose the settings gear
  • Select Device
  • Keyboard
  • Change Input Settings
  • Add Input method
To add the on-screen keyboard and alter the language:
  • Select the time in the bottom-right of the screen
  • Choose Accessibility
  • Find on-screen keyboard and toggle it on
  • You will now see the keyboard at the bottom of the screen
  • Select it
  • Look above the =+ at the top right of the keyboard and choose the keyboard with a back arrow or what looks like a globe.
  • You will now see the language you added
What a powerful way to make the student feel at ease and be able to communicate with you.

Embedded below is a 1 minute and 41 second YouTube tutorial.

Take care,
Brad
