How to create a writing prompt and give students instant AI feedback to assist them with their writing.

Curipod offers some amazing interactive lessons filled with creativity, reflection and critical thinking. The one I focused on today revolves around writing and giving students instant feedback.

When you enter Curipod  and select Students Receive AI Feedback you will see the image below.

In this example I chose a Narrative Writing Prompt.

Once you select the grade level and Do Magic you will be presented with a lesson and instructions which you can adjust as you see fit.

When ready, make sure to select Present (upper right).

In the image below you will see the presentation and then click on the icon to allow your students to see how to join.

You will see an image like below that you can adjust the time as well as start the lesson.

Once students have completed you need to select Give Feedback.

Students will see an example like you see below. I did write that I did not want to do this prompt.

You can always go back to your creations and see the student responses as well as the AI feedback.

Embedded below is a 2 minute and 19 second YouTube tutorial where I take you through the entire process.

Brad

On a Chromebook how you can access multiple desktops, rename them, add and or delete ones as well.

If you (or your students) use a Chromebook, the availability of multiple desktops allows us all to focus on specific tasks without distractions.

To access these desktops make sure you select the show windows key (above the number 6).

From there you can add a desktop or delete.

You can also access these desktops (and rename them by using two fingers on the shelf at the bottom of the screen.

This will allow you to show the desktop in the shelf and then quickly switching to the other ones by clicking on the arrow key.

For more details watch the 1 minute and 35 second YouTube tutorial below.

How to set up Tab Groups in Google Chrome

If you want to have a certain set of tabs open all at once you can do that quite easily. Back in February of 2021 I blogged about this being available, but through the use of flags in Chrome (How to make the most of Tab Groups in Google Chrome).

To get started, simply open a tab and right-click on it and choose Add tab to group and then choose New Group (or add to a previously created group).

Then make sure to name the group, choose a color designation, and save the group. See image below for more information.

Have students that would like to explore a topic like baseball? Check out the Health & Fitness section in School AI.

WOW! I know I have been sharing a ton about SchoolAI recently, well today is no different! I just explored their Health & Fitness section and wow, this would have been a game changer for a student like me. The ability to explore a topic like baseball and Explore the history, rules, and cultural impact of Baseball in this engaging interactive activity would have done so much for me. Having a discussion with an "expert" in the field and feel like I can ask any question in the world and not feel "dumb" would have done so much.

To access this section enter into SchoolAI, select Discover, then Health & Fitness, and the topic of your interest (see images below).

Even if you do not know if you have a student who is interested in something like this, please have these available for you may have a student like I was who was shy and did not speak up.

Have a translated conversation using Sheets, onscreen keyboard, and voice typing on a Chromebook.

In yesterday's post I shared How to have a translated conversation with anyone using Google Sheets and the formulas can not be edited by anyone but you.

The one item to add to that post is the ability for your student to have an onscreen keyboard in their language. This keyboard also includes a microphone so students can voice type (really important to have this keyboard in their language).

  • Select the time in the bottom right of your Chromebook
  • Choose the settings gear
  • Select Device
  • Keyboard
  • Change Input Settings
  • Add Input method
When you

How to have a translated conversation with anyone using Google Sheets and the formulas can not be edited by anyone but you.

Earlier this month I posted about how a Chromebook and Google Sheets can be a huge help with non-English speaking students.

How a Chromebook and Google Sheets can Empower Conversations with Non-English Speaking Students.

While the sheet worked nicely, some feedback has been that the formula and other aspects of the Sheet could be changed by mistake.

So, I saw Google's recent Tweet about Google Translate and decided to change a few things.

  1. I simplified the Sheet to only have 1 back and forth conversation.
  2. The teacher and student can only each write in 1 cell each. All the other cells are locked.
    1. This is helpful as no formulas can be changed.
  3. A little color to spruce it up a bit and provide a little separation.
You can see an example below.

Please note you will need to
  • all cells B/C 1 and E/F 1
    • (this is where you and the student will be typing) and right click.
  • make sure to select View more cell actions and protect range

  • then choose to set permissions
  • make sure to choose that only you can restrict who can edit this range

  • you can then share this sheet with the student in question
    • make sure they can edit the sheet as they will need to write back and forth with you

Brief look at 4 tools in Magic School for Students. Writing Feedback, Song Generator, Create a Skit, and Book Suggestions

In MagicSchool, MagicStudent is available for all users. Today, we will be looking at 4 more tools that

I wanted to make you aware of.

  • Writing Feedback
This tool is one that really spoke to me, especially younger me. I can not tell you how helpful this tool would have been. The ability to have unbiased feedback let me know positives, negatives, etc and make suggestions would have been so powerful.

This is one where I could see teachers needing some time to get comfortable with it. However, over time, I think this tool will be seen purely as a learning tool.

  • Song Generator
This is a great one and can be a ton of fun for students to get creative with!

  • Create a Skit
What a great tool to have available for students to get started with and to see how skits can be written.

  • Book Suggestions
Students could really find some books on their own that cold open up some new worlds!
