The Checker Plus Gmail extension for Chrome allows you to get notifications, read, listen, create, and delete emails without opening Gmail.

I just had a conversation with one of my brothers the other day how we respond quickly to texts, but emails not as much. The reason why is because texts, for the most part, are personal, while emails can come from anywhere and emails can get buried. This extension could help with responding quickly to emails that you need to respond to.
