That's right - you can now make a duplicate of your Google Site. This is great for numerous reasons, including being able to experiment with a feature on your own site and see what the results are. Another reason that comes to mind right away is being able to share your site with someone so they can see the ins and out of your site and how you created it.

Please note that this feature is being rolled out, so if you do not see the ability to duplicate, please be patient. My personal account has this feature while my work one does not.
